The Staff Optical System Engineer, R&D will play a pivotal role in leading the development of ophthalmic surgical laser equipment. You will leverage your engineering, scientific, and clinical expertise to guide design control, new product development, and enhancements to existing products. This role requires a strong focus on optical system architecture design, requirements development, and supplier collaboration, alongside hands-on integration, characterization, and optimization of designs at both system and subsystem levels.
Essential Responsibilities:
· Conduct hands-on design, integration, and troubleshooting for complex medical laser systems.
· Collaborate with multi-functional teams, suppliers, and contractors to develop robust optical system architectures and validated test methods.
· Define, manage, and mitigate risks associated with subsystem interfaces.
· Guide system and subsystem teams through tradeoff decisions, balancing customer and business benefits against technical complexities and schedule risks.
· Service as subject matter expert (SME) for one or more ophthalmic medical laser systems.
· Conduct, and/or advise upon, root-cause-analysis (RCA) and troubleshooting during system development, installations, and fielded systems.
· Serve as a liaison among internal R&D teams, cross-functional partners, and external vendors.
· Coordinate with verification teams to ensure that all requirements are verifiable.
· Research and stay informed about emerging technologies, industry advancements, and regulatory trends to maintain a competitive edge.
